Corner of a work-in-progress by Deco

Good cheer, my friends

One of the words that is common in this season, when we are celebrating holidays at the dark and cold time of year, is Love. Love is a stretchy word, a pliable concept. We mean the coziness we feel for those we live with or grew up with, passion in romance, and universal warmth to all of humanity, care for all in the universe from the tiniest not-yet-seen to the most expansive.

I just completed a collage that I have been working on since September; it is a commission from a private party, so I can’t post it here, but is all about Love.  It is a portrait of a person expressing love, a gift of love to someone as commissioned by someone else – a chain of different expressions of Love.  I have included three detail photos of it here, showing some hidden messages without revealing the subject of the portrait.

Life Goes On

With the completion of the portrait, I am back to working on my Coral Reef, seeing it with renewed vision, and filled with more energy and determination.  I listen to music as I work.  Lately, I have been tuning in my favorite K-pop artists, BTS.  I think their new album and the song, “Live Goes On” perfectly captures some of the feeling engendered by the isolation of COVID-19 quarantining.  I encourage you to watch this performance for James Corden’s “Late Late Show".

Happy for the Holidays

Plunging into holiday celebration is my other activity this month. I am listening to my favorite carols, decking the halls, preparing treats for sharing, planning feasts and family Zoom calls, and giving as generously as I can, because I can.

I started a fund-raising campaign for a local organization for which I volunteer, Many Mothers.  In other years, the non-profit sends volunteers to families welcoming a newborn; we hold the babies to give new moms a break, and bring encouragement to vulnerable.  This year virus shutdowns means we can’t go into homes, but the families still need diapers and baby food.  Here is the link to my Many Mothers fundraising page on Facebook.
