Too Far Out

Artist Statement

Water...so essential to life. In the creation of this Original Collage, I explored some aspects of water, how it distorts our perspectives on objects partially submerged.  The firm boundaries of things dissipate and we become uncertain of where a thing begins and where it ends; so too in life.  Sometimes when we are plunged into a complex situation, our vision blurs and we cannot see where we are and where we are going to. This densely detailed collage incorporates the words from Stevie Smith's classic poem "Not Waving, but Drowning". This is the first of the "Elements" series, in which I look at the dissipation of matter into nothingness, exploring that edge, and that ambiguous border, that gap between being and not being.

Picture
Splashing, frothing, giving the impression of action and motion, and to no avail... no one notices. In the water, all is distorted, all dissipates into nothingness.
